Every pilot starts in the same place: with a desire to fly and a willingness to learn.

Welcome to Private Pilot Ground School! In this first lesson, we'll explore the world of general aviation, what it means to become a private pilot, and the path you'll follow from your first ground lesson to earning your Private Pilot Certificate.

Learning to fly is about much more than operating an airplane. Pilots learn to understand weather, aircraft systems, navigation, airspace, regulations, aerodynamics, human factors, and—perhaps most importantly—how to make good decisions.

Throughout this course, my goal is not simply to help you memorize information for the FAA Knowledge Test. I want you to understand why things work, how the pieces fit together, and how the knowledge you're gaining on the ground applies when you're sitting in the cockpit.
